South Beach, Staten Island is located on the east shore of the island. The area was a NY summer beach house/getaway hotspot in the early 20th century. Many South Beach houses were in the area were bungalow style to go along with the beach-house vibes in the area. The area was serviced by the Staten Island Railway unit 1953, making South Beach easily accessible for beach-goers of the time. The South Beach Boardwalk was a staple during this time. Small amusement parks and arcades, like the Happyland Amusement Park, once flourished there, but virtually all had disappeared by the 1970s with the last one closing in 2006. Today, you’ll find many of the same bungalows that existed during South Beach’s time as the destination beach getaway. South Beach still serves as a community asset for locals to enjoy the beautiful coastline with the Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk stretches 2.5 along the coast and offers community events such as fireworks during the 4th of July.
