Concord Real Estate

Homes for sale in Concord tend to be more modern than other Staten Island neighborhoods. This is because many older homes were torn down in the 1960s in order to build the Staten Island Expressway. Many of the older homes that do exist have since been renovated with lap or stucco siding.

Overall, Concord presents a wide variety of housing types, from single-family detached houses, to townhomes, apartments, and condominiums. Prices are very competitive when compared to other New York areas, and the relatively low cost of living is a big draw for the area.

A few historic gems can still be found in Concord, including characteristic Staten Island miniatures in Tudor, Second-Empire, or Prairie farmhouse styles. The area's Dutch history can still be seen in the occasional Dutch-hipped roof, or shed-style dormer.

Many homes take the form of vinyl-over-redbrick split-level bungalows, which make full use of the narrower lots available on the island with neat front yards and paved backyards.

Concord real estate falls between Dongan Hills (and Old Town) to the south, Arrochar (and Grasmere) to the east-southeast, Park Hill and Rosebank to the north, and Emerson Hill to the west.

Concord was originally named Dutch Farms, but was renamed after Concord, Massachusetts in 1845. The area was also extensively settled by German immigrants, and many places in Concord still bear names representative of that heritage.

Concord Transport

Concord is served by multiple bus routes, including the X10, X14, and X15 express buses to Manhattan. The I-278, Staten Island Expressway runs across the northern side of Concord, granting access to one of the New York area's main thoroughfares. A light rail line passes through Concord, running north to south, and Concord residents enjoy access to some of the island's best commercial centers.

Concord High School is located in a historic red-brick structure. Built in 1894, the building is an excellent example of Federalist architectural design.
